Brow & Forehead Lift

San Diego, California

For people who suffer from premature wrinkling, loose skin, and furrows of the brow, we offer a targeted surgical solution to lift, smooth, and tighten the brow, leaving you looking more relaxed, happy, and youthful.

Two types of brow lift: Endoscopic vs. Coronal

There are two general types of brow lift—the endoscopic brow lift and the coronal brow lift. The primary difference between these two is that the endoscopic brow lift is in the type of incision and how the procedure is performed.

In an endoscopic brow lift, the work is done remotely, using a small metal tube called an endoscope, which is inserted through small incisions made along the brow line. This type of procedure is ideal for many types of standard brow lift, although it does not allow the degree of precision in alternations that a coronal brow lift does. The endoscopic procedure requires less healing time than the coronal brow lift, because the incisions are smaller and the procedure is less invasive overall.

In a coronal brow lift, the work on the brow muscles is done directly, through an incision that runs from ear to ear along the top of the head. This allows for a great deal of precision work and minute adjustments to be done. However, because of the size of the incision, the coronal brow lift requires more healing time than the endoscopic brow lift.

Elements of a brow lift procedure

The first step in a brow lift procedure is anesthesia. Depending on your preferences and other specifics of your case, we will either put you under general anesthesia or intravenous sedatives combined with local anesthetics.

Once you are appropriately sedated, your brow lift may consist of any combination of these elements, depending on the specific procedure you have chosen:

  • Tightening the underlying muscles of the brow. By joining and tightening the underlying brow muscles, create a taut, smooth, youthful looking brow line, eliminating or reducing major wrinkles, sagging, drooping, furrows, and frown lines on the forehead.
  • Pulling the skin of the forehead taut, to eliminate excess skin that contributes to wrinkling, sagging, and the appearance of aging. Once this is complete, we will close the sutures.
  • Lifting the brow line. If you suffer from significant drooping of the brow, we may opt to lift the brow and hold it in place by means of permanent sutures, screws, or some other permanent fixation device.
